The Societas Linguistica Europaea (SLE) is a non-profit non-governmental organization. It is not tied to any particular national interests and is therefore the natural home for linguists who think European.

What is the SLE?

  • SLE is the only continental professional organization of linguists and, besides the Comité International Permanent des Linguistes, the only international linguistic association.
  • SLE is a democratically constituted organization. The Executive Committee, including the President, the Secretary and the Treasurer, are responsible to the Annual Members’ Meeting, which takes place at the annual conferences. If you want to engage in SLE activities, you are welcome as a candidate for an office.
  • SLE Annual Meetings are professionally organized high-quality conferences that cover all of linguistics. They are the events of choice if you want to be updated on current work in different subdisciplines and in different countries. The conferences are held at renowned universities all over Europe, every year in another country.

Why join the Societas Linguistica Europaea?

As a member, you are welcome at our annual SLE meeting, which over the last decade has become one of the key gatherings for linguists.

As a member you are entitled to access to Folia Linguistica and Folia Linguistica Historica, two refereed linguistic journals of internationally recognized standing. Folia Linguistica and Folia Linguistica Historica publish, first and foremost, articles by SLE members.

As a member you receive our Newsletters, with updates on the community of linguists and the dynamic field of linguistics.
